How thick should loft insulation be?

The current recommended depth is around 270mm of mineral wool. Many older Manchester lofts have far less — often 100mm or below — so topping up delivers a noticeable improvement.

Can you insulate over old insulation?

Usually yes. If the existing layer is dry and in good condition, we can top it up to the right depth. If it's damp, mouldy or compressed, we'll advise removing and replacing it.

Will it make my home quieter?

Mineral wool is a good sound absorber, so many homeowners notice less outside noise as well as a more comfortable home year-round.
